Eclipse

Eclipse, Monday April 8 2024. SW Calgary, AB

Let’s get nerdy, me outside the house with a tripod, camera and homemade light filter made out of theatre stage lighting gels and white board. 3 cuts of L135 ish and 1 cut of L115 ish. Zero light transmission, only the hot spot of the sun making it through.

Camera L200 iso, f/22 aperture, 1/25 shutter speed on a 230mm lens…let’s get nerdy.

Technically I am happy with the images and a little surprised at what I got. I wanted to be more creative but did not have a plan, it was a rush job. If there ever is a next time of pointing my camera at the sky I will consider scouting for a location beforehand. Something else in the scene foreground / shadow other than the sun may be interesting, but would need to contrast from the black space / sky, that one may need more thought. Perhaps a double exposure to create story? That could be interesting.

I think this experience of shooting the sun has inspired me to shoot more, get out more and live more…lets get nerdy.
